Keep Your AC Clean!

AC-repairWith summer here and the hot, sticky days of summer creeping in on us, many people have put in their air conditioners. It is important to remember to keep up the maintenance of your air conditioning unit, no matter how big or small, to ensure that it lasts a long time. Super Service Plumbing Heating and Air Conditioning Royal Pro offers a selection of discounts to help you keep your air conditioning unit repaired, maintained, replaced, and installed; however, we know that not everyone can afford to have routine maintenance, so here are a few tips to helping keep your air conditioning unit in tip-top condition until you can get a professional to check it out for you.

  1. Make sure you know what sort of Air Conditioning unit you have. Is it a small home AC? A large duct-using AC? Central Air? Ductless? Rooftop? All these have different set-ups, so it is important that you look at the owner/operators manual of your air conditioning so that you can recognize when something goes wrong. These manuals will often also have tips on the upkeep of your AC, so don’t throw them out! If you can’t find your manual, you can look online to find tips on taking care of your specific model.
  2. Keep enough space around your AC. If there isn’t enough air around the air conditioner, it’s likely that it won’t be able to do its job correctly. Think of it this way: if you’re vacuuming your house and a piece of paper is blocking half of the airway, not much is going to get sucked into the vacuum, leaving your house just as dirty as before. So keep the area around your air conditioner clear (or around the ducts, or air vents) so that the air can go through, and get out to you. This also goes for the unit you may have outside. A two-foot radius of space is a good rule to stick to.
